Situation

Gordola is a political municipality in the district of Navegna, in the district of Locarno. The municipality comprises the fractions Gordemo, Scalate, Rongia, Gaggiole and Monti di Motti. The village lies at an altitude of 250 m above sea level at the entrance to the Verzasca Valley and at the southern foot of slopes covered with chestnut trees and vineyards, on the Bellinzona-Locarno road and 5.5 km north-east of Locarno. It has a station on the Bellinzona-Locarno line of the Swiss Federal Railways. The municipality borders the Lago di Vogorno reservoir and Lake Maggiore.
